Peter, the difference is your neglected stock is probably better than most peoples carefully trained and maintained stuff! I know its better than mine

So here is my plan to start this project.
1. Remove excess under the roots to create a flat base leaving the surface roots as nebari.

2. Remove all the bark to expose the deadwood.

3 Treat the stump with line sulphur to preserve it. Any info on best way to do this on such a large stump? I'm guessing paint it.

4. Find suitable donor trees to graft on. I'm thinking shimpuku junipers. I know a nursery that has them at a reasonable price.

5. Find a large enough pot/tray to fit the stump in and secure the stump to said pot.

6. Carve out branches and jins to create the final look of the stump.

7. Carve out grooves for donor trees to be attached into.

8. Re treat entire stump with lime sulphur.

9. Attach trees to stump.

10. Place in protect area to let recover.

11. Cross all fingers and toes.

12. Prune and wire branches.

13. Repeat steps 10-12 about 20 times.

14. Enjoy result.

15. Plan B is after step 11. Remove dead trees and start again

Am I on the right track with how to go about this project. Treating the stump will be my biggest issue to start with I think.

Happy to see you have a plan, good. If you have a look on the internet, can't remember which site, it show you via video how to seal the stump I think they sprayed it but not lime/sulphur not sure what though. May of been some sort of heavy duty sealer. Check it out mate.

Yes it was a demolition house so either I took it or they bulldozed it.
