Hey Ken,
man it was hot today!! Still is!
Unlike you I was working from home and watered a total of 6 times! I think I may have lost one of my training shohin murraya, even with my watering regime it is all wilted.
My trees, in there current position, get sun from first light through to about 2pm. I had to move a couple of my trees in bonsai pots under shade at about 10am... it was already about 35 degrees.
I visited Ray Nesci just for a sec this morning, and it was 30 degrees at 9am!

We're finally getting some relief now in Adelaide this week. Managed to get through the heat with only a few scorched leaves, could have been a lot worse.
I'll drink an Asahi to that!

Hi Qitianlong!
My place is near Windsor if you could just pop in and give my poor plants a bit of a water! thanks!
I gave them a good drink this-morning at 6am before I left for work but they have to be hating this heat.
I think I better invest for some more shadecloth & timed sprinklers for next summer!

45 here today, with some hot winds after 10 this morning.
Go out this evening to see some ground growns leaves shriveled. And some droped leaves on the plums that were layered and planted out after christmas.Looks like they'll be fine though,i saw some new white roots from one that fell over when the hose caught it.luckily they were in the shade.
So far i have lost 5 trees in the growing area this sumer. Only watering 2x daily.

Just wondering of anyone is using seasol on these hot days. I give all my trees a soaking with seasol on any day that is going to be real hot.I water first then seasol. I have 1 liquid amber in a small pot the has burnt leaves but not terminal and a couple of willows that wilted but all have budded back like crazy (bugger, gotta wire them again now). Don't know if it helps but the trees seem happy. On one of the 45 degree days I water at 7am and again at 8pm. That was when the liquid amber got crispy. I guess it can help to reduce the shock and thus the effect of the burning.

Got home at 5 yesterday to a cooled off 42 degrees
Many of my trees were showing signs of stress by wilting and the wife said sh noticed a few of them were so, but that it was too hot to go and water them

!!
Anyway a quick splash around with the hose and in 15 minutes they were all good again.
Interesting to compare the 43 deg we had a week ago my trees were all OK and no wilting at the end of the day, and yesterday the 45+ we had was over the limit of a watering only in the morning to last them thru.
Both days were similar with a light breeze only, and a few patchy clouds and haze.
Hope everyone else coped OK and those members located near any fires are safe
Ken

As we live with these condition most summers we have learnt how to get through.
The one thing I am concerned with though is how many of our members are affected by the Fires. We hope that they are safe and well, as for many there is nothing they can do.
I wish for all to come though safe, and no loss of life, we can replace most things but not Lives.
Please stay safe Members of AusBonsai.
Cheers Pup

Too true Pup. Some friends have lost their houses up near Coonabarabran, and my mother-in-law is packed ready to leave. Puts things in perspective for sure.

Hi all,
Just completed a trip to Hay, Adelaide via Mildura, Melbourne and then back to Canberra.
We had the weather worked out so that when we had trees on board the weather was cool from Adelaide to Melbourne and Melbourne to Canberra. No problem. That way the trees were doing it in comfort.
Set out from Canberra last Wednesday early on a hot day and found 2 hours out of Canberra that the Air Conditioning didn't work and too late to turn around. No problem I can handle 37 degrees without air con and got to Hay without any problems.
Next day Hay to Mildura and then Adelaide. set out early but it still got a bit hot shall we say. 47 Degrees without air con was no fun at all. I employed evaporative cooling; bought some tea towels and lots of water and regularly wet myself down and even drove with a wet tea towel on my head; must have looked a bit strange but hey it worked. I arrived in Adelaide around 4pm and wasn't too much worse for the experience.
Don't want to do it again of course though.
