Hi pal that is florists raffia we have used to wrap with. It is soaked in water for a few mins or longer prior to use, then few strands at a time together wrapped around branches and trunk tightly and firmly that are under going bending. This supports to minimise/avoid breaks cracks and splits. There is more too it than i have briefly explained and it helps to go through it with somen one experienced to see and talk about the finer detail. Alternatively you will find clips on you tube im sure. Some people use rubber bike tubes cut into strips others vet tape. I personally prefer raffia for its kinder and breathable long term quality's.

Speaking of raffia Tony, it's been on for a day short of a month now with some pretty good growth. Wondering how long till the raffia and thick wire come off?

6 -12 months in some cases. Mo this good growth you see is not much in real terms especially that shimps are slow growers. If you took it off to soon it will go back to how it was in days. We can have a look at it in the near future...

Bit of a cheeky update photo here, just testing out a display setting for the shohin comp to make sure i get a good one going when i need to haha



Needs some significant neatening up but will have to wait.

I think you'll also notice its been repotted into the same pot with new much better soil some slow release and a new better angle for both the pot and tree! The accent is just a bit of fun.

Let me know what everyone thinks!! Oh and Tony if you're still out there, I'd love to hear your thoughts .
