Also where would I find it? Is it something bunnings stock, or is a hydroponic store specialty? It's taken me a week to find Diatomite here in S.A so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks again,
Luke

hi, i bought my 20 kilo bag of zeolite from, SOLADOME . 44 CHAPEL ST.NORWOOD. BUT CALL FIRST .. 83628042 .i think it was about $40, but will last heaps.. also, what size of diatomite did you find , i could only find 7 to 15 mm pieces,in Adelaide, need smaller, so i had to crush mine with a roller.. as with ratios, about 20 percent zeolite,to your mix, would be a good start, i reckon....cheers...joe

Thanks, Ive only found 7-15mm diatomite here in Adelaide atm, however, the guy at soladome is looking into getting me a few bags of 2-7mm. I'm not holding my breath though. How did it go with crushing it? was it fairly time consuming? My only other option is to get it from Melbourne, but with freight it is $50 per bag of 2-7mm!!!!
Good to know where to Zeolite though, thanks again

hi, i was crushing with a heavy garden roller on the garage floor, about 1/4 of a bag at a time, have to be carefull not to go over the same bits too often, otherwise, dust will result,, then sifting out smaller particles,in stages,, very time consuming, you also get waste dust, so for the extra $10 per bag for the 2-7mm, minus the effort, sounds like a good idea ..... ive crushed 80 liters of the stuff.. cheers.....Joe

Hey Joe, (reminds me of a song I've heard  )

I have just been informed that S.A. Bonsai Society has a shipment of 2-7mm grade coming shortly, they will announce it at their meetings when available.

To be honest, I don't know, but with the amount of members they have, and access to their library for members you'd be silly not too. I only joined last month, and they had 74 members at that meeting. It cost me $30, but i think it is going up to $40 very soon. Its cheaper for country members too. Hope to see you there :D

It is good stuff, I have used it for over a year now and I am very happy with it.

They used to carry 2-10mm which was great, as there was no fine particles to sift out, but do not carry that size anymore.

Also, ensure that you sift out the fines, less than 2mm, as they can cause your soil mix to 'set' a bit like concrete.
