Hi,
For a newbie I had an absolutely fantastic day at the ideas summit. To hear and see Peter Adams demonstrate on some great stock material was just amazing. I must also say that the knowledge of the Nesci's Clinton and his dad Ray and their commitment to Bonsai is fantastic.
I look forward to the second day tomorrow.

Clinton then Created a Root over Rock Planting and dedicated to the memory of Ron Flack who passed away last week.
Ron was one of the founding members of the School, and gave many years of dedicated service to Bonsai.

The Rock was an old lump of Ironstone that Ron had in his back yard for many years and was always going to be a "project", but never happened.
Enjoy

Last Demo for the Day was Ray Nesci and his "Playthings"
He stretches the boundaries of Bonsai with some out there ideas, where he just has lots of fun

So Peter is at TSOB this weekend, in SA July 30th - August 2nd then at the Imagination tree on the 6th and 7th of August. Are these the only dates he is holding workshops and demo's in Aust?

Re: T.S.O.B. 2011 Idea’s Summit 2nd & 3rd July
I have 15 pages of notes to type up, (just from day 1
), but here is just ONE snippet
PA: let your tree do the talking, dont put someone else's recipe on your tree to make it something else, use what your tree has got.
the inspirational critiques are always my favourite part and today we had...
1. Japanese black Pine - literati
2. port jackson fig - root over rock
3. corky bark elm
4. shimpaku juniper - literati
5. olive
6. chinese elm

Re: T.S.O.B. 2011 Idea’s Summit 2nd & 3rd July
The final major demonstration of the day involved this magnificent Juniperus Sabina - collected from a demolition site in 2009.
This tree is the subject of a pending progression article in 'Bonsai Focus' magazine. Peter Adams showed sketches producing three possible outcomes for the tree.
Option 1 - involved removing bottom left of the tree, tilting slightly left and building the future on the right.
Option 2 - involved removing all of the right side of the tree and reducing the foliage on the left giving it a windswept effect.
Option 3 - remove some under-foliage, and tilt the tree about 25 degrees to the right into a two-trunk raft style.
Greg chose to go with Option 3
While Greg busied himself wiring the tree with the help of Clinton,
Peter got stuck into the third of the big trident maples that were sourced from the Ray Nesci Nursery. With the Juniper wired and trimmed, the plan is to allow the tree to recover for a while before continuing to the next phase.
