Hi all,
Yes it will be hosted by Bonsai Northwest in Melbourne and of course, as President, I know who we will be bringing out. :) We are already preparing advanced stock and have some real beauties available including a massive juniper of mine that I hope gets chosen. I can also tell you that the venue is outstanding too. If you were down in Melbourne in 2007 when we hosted it last, the feedback was extremely positive and we always aim to surpass our last attempt.

If you are attending the Perth convention all I can say is wait for the Presentation as it is a beauty!!! :)

David

A good sized advanced juniper for the demonstrator will be great, I always love to see a good bit of wiring...

Great to hear that Leigh.

As for the juniper of mine, in its current bonsai pot its a 4 man tree to carry. Hoping to repot it into mica so it would probably be a 3 man tree instead. :) Just doing the best I can to prepare it for 2012 now. There is lots of deadwood already on it and more to come I believe. :)

The guest demonstrator would be given a choice of several trees, work would need to be interesting but still completed within the allowed time frame. To put up examples of possibilities more than a year in advance would be pure luck to come up with the final selection.
Organizers in the past have been very secretive about demonstration trees, they have been known to cover a tree with a sheet and unveil it at the beginning of a demo.
I believe this is going overboard but it makes the whole thing more theatrical. It is better to see the tree up close beforehand so that you can better understand what is being done.
If David is going to show us, now is a good time but we should bear in mind that it is probably one of a dozen possibilities. It would perhaps give us an idea of the callibre of tree which will be presented.

Hi Gerard, you are right in alot of what you have said. In 2007 we had about 10 trees to choose from and all would have made great demostration material. I would love for my juniper to be worked on.
Scott, I am guessing that it is a 4 man tree as my brother and I (35 and 34 years old, fit, weight training) could barely lift it onto a wheel barrow in order to move it. Unfortunately I don't have any good photos of it. Maybe it will have to wait until the big reveal....if it gets chosen. :)

Thanks for the interest.
David
