Hi Roka, sorry for not posting a reply earlier. Yes the spray does kill them but they are in such numbers that i have to re spray often. Will keep spraying them in the hope of killing all the little buggers. Next year i will have to have the spray made up and ready for them as soon as they appear as I think hitting them early before they can do too much damage is the key. Still have not been able to get a positive ID on them though. Will have to try and get a better pic in the hope someone knows what the bugs are. Thanks very much for you interest and your help

Aphids. You may as well remove the damaged shoots, there will be no recovery for parts damaged like in the pics. There are many remedies that don't involve chemicals to kill the remaining few on less affected areas. Soap spray. Chilli, Garlic and Pyrethrum. Natrasoap and more (try Googling).

Yep its a chemical, and it kills everything. It's a last resort option. Can be purchased at all good nurserys.

Hey guys I used to use chemicles but no longer do i learnt of nature. I bought 3 preying mantis (stick insects) which are keept in a special cage as soon as I see a bug I unleash them I place them on my bonsai spark up a ciggie and down a cold one as they hunt kill and eat all insects what they dont eat usually run if u buy urself 2 that's more then enough and after awhile they know what's going on so they don't squirm when u pick em up they r great as pets require little to none maintemance and it adds to the aesthetically pleasing of a bonsai plus it is entertaining they work 100% and chemicle free altho do keep a close eye on them as I have lost them a few times luckily they are used to it and they come back but look into it they are cheap

Think of them as ur bonsais very own personal body guard

nice one, yeah i dont use chemicals either and have some preying mantis also, its nice to know they are around.
