Thanks for the update, glad your day ended well. You probably have found if foliage does not receive enough light in a season due to new growth above, next season the plant will send energy to upper foliage to extend out into more light. If in that season the upper foliage succeeds in over growing the under foliage, the under foliage will die at the end of the season to send all energy to the top. Thus is how a plant grows.

Just so you know, the plant in the above thread is now dead. I am not ashamed to say so, I know I am a much more knowledgeable now, than before it died.

i'v read that1 b4 in my trolling around the last few months i've been quiet but reading LOTS

the science of growing i have down pat even got a little piece of paper 4 it a few years ago...dip hort

its the ART of growing that now interests me

so many trees and so few styled......always something 2 do at least

We seem to suffer from the same affliction, growing is not a prob for me, but tell me to style, forget it mate!

The only style I know well as do you, is to grow a plant as a tree.

as i promised before and after shots.......

heard a wee lil crack while bending the tail not 2 worry i intend to shorten it in good time anyway we'll just wait and c first


i know its not a massive improvement in looks but health and light wise it certainly is/will be, give it time.

thinking i may slip pot it up and give it about another inch of soil all round for the next 7-8 months any1 disagree with this course of action

It wouldn't hurt it to slip pot the tree. Trees i have growing on i always have over potted

Hi Micka01, thats a good starting effort , but you really should(imo) think about wiring some other branches into positions and really thinning the foliage out a fair bit,,plse don't take this the wrong way but if you leave tree tree like it is at the moment, it will more than likely end up the way it was before. I post for you a juni i did a few months ago( no b4 pic) as an example. It may look sparse but it's setting the tree up for it's intended style, i know my juni has a different trunk than yours but i hope you find this useful Micka01,,,good luck,,,Craig . . Nice movement in the tail, and the branches on the outside of each bend.

mick, this will give a nice Platform for each foliage pad to develop and be trained as they should in the future
