Yes Jamie the semi cascade is quite special. More pines to come later in the week.

There are always lots of spectacular azaleas at the show, flowering varies and azalea growers will choose the most spectacular flowering specimens they have at that time.

Hi Gerard,
this will be the 11th VicBonsai exhibition that I have been to and I am looking forward to Saturday 9th Oct (counting the days!)
I can safely say that anyone who has never been before and is tossing up whether or not to go, will be missing out on some of the best bonsai in Australia and in my opinion, quite a few trees that are every bit good enough to be in the National Collection in Canberra in the future.
From when I first attended in 2000 as a novice bumbling my way through my bonsai journey, this exhibition forever changed the way I looked at the art of bonsai, stopped me buying junk and has influenced the way I design and work on my trees to this day. One of the best experiences for me over the years has been watching great trees evolve every year, some have seen subtle improvements, others have had dramatic changes, often a tree will not be shown for a period of years and when it re-emerges at an exhibition, despite the sometimes extensive (even radical) changes, it is instantly recognisable.
Don't miss it.
Cheers,
Mojo

OK, I know you are keen on shohin.
If anybody sees a potential shohin in the sales area which is an absolute bargain, Mojo wants you to leave it
For Jamie and Mojo we have Shohin and we have black pines

Oh year I'm sure that will stop them
Finding shohin is easy Gerard, for me just about every stock tree is a potential mini bonsai to my eyes

. I confess that I have at times stared at a pristine show tree, while secretly airlayering it in my head

. That is normal behaviour, is it not?
Cheers,
Mojo

Hi everyone
My plans are to show a trident maple root over rock this year
Trident root over rock medium 2010 06 a.JPG
on the other hand the crabapple is just about to come into flower. If flowers are still in good condition for the 9th it could get the nod instead.

I'll also be taking nursery stock for sale. Any requests for particular species or plants?
Look forward to catching up with friends and Ausbonsai members again this year.

Another regular appearance which will be absent due to the Canberra raiders.
This magnificent pine was worked on by John Naka in the mid 1970's, and by Hirotoshi Saito in 2008.
It has been a wonderful discussion piece and still many people disagree as to which is the best front.

This tree is currently at the NBPCA in Canberra

Hi Gerard, this old radiata is an Ian Edwards tree. Nice to see it in such good condition.

Thanks for joining in and posting some pics Shibui, I look foreward to meeting you and your trees.
I feel that I have seen that trident root over rock?
Perhaps a workshop with Hiro about 4 years ago?

Looking forward to being at the exhibition on the 9th. Hope to meet up with old and new acquaintances, as it has been a few years since I attended.
