yeh cant wait till summer ay, i had a bunch of new growth pop up but the cold snap on the gold coast got the last few night killed it off.
this tree has goten me hooked on swampys some thing crazy

Yeah, I love swampies too. I think they are now my favourite species! I have more of them than most other species
Going to try and do some work to one on the weekend time permitting. Going to be a very nice, small upright tree. Well I hope it will be nice haha

hey nathan yeh mate it would be a big group as the swampy ive got now is a decent size as it is. it surprised me so much how fast they fatten up.

ill add more photos as it keeps getting bigger. are the chinese swamp cypress and these swampys the same thing?

The Glyptostrobus pencilis is what you are refering to but its foliage is not as nice or compact as the Taxodium.

Metasequoia glyptostroboides (Dawn Redwood) is another good option though.

And of course there is Taxodium mucronatum (or distichum var Mexicanum) Montezuma Cypress.

grant- cheers for the pics mate there awsome very close to what i had in mind for mine, i was thinking of doing one main tree with a decent size trunk and about 4 other smaller sized swampys around it, could i maybe mix chinese swampys with my group maybe 3 and 2 chinese or some thing like that?

nathan- they are also becommin my fave species due to the growth rate and old look they have from a youngish age. we've got predicted more cold nights here at the moment so ill have to wait to get more growth

ill post an update photo next week to show how much its thickened up in a few weeks.

I was given some swampy cuttings 2 weeks ago. Soaked them in seasol for 2 days then put in a pot. Some of them already have new shoots! Amazing plants!

Does anyone know if there is a variety of Swampie that's evergreen? Mine hasn't changed colour or lost any leaves this year. Come to think of it, I think it was purchased from The Imagination Tree so maybe Chris'll know.

i can get some, pretty small stock though. good price thats why i was asking if they would go well in a group setting along with my swampy.

Waltron - what climate do u live in? if your in the tropics im guessing they wouldn't drop. iv'e seen some peoples i know around here (gold coast) there swampys stayed green through winter untill about 2 weeks ago when we had the cold snap all of a sudden

Here on the Fraser coast, three of my Swamp Cypress have dropped their leaves and two haven't. One is actually powering on and continually putting on new growth - and they're all from the same parent plant - go figure!

I've got several swampies, and only one has no leaves It's the biggest, oldest one too. A couple have lost some leaves and had some colour change, and one hasn't changed at all, except in size. All through winter its been gorwing, and I'll have to remove wire I did a month ago this weekend!
They are intersting. Like elms I guess.. One of my elms lost very few leaves, the other had none on it.
And my pomegrante, which I was worried had died, is about to burst

my elm didn't loose it's leaves i had to defoliate it to work on the skeleton. it changed colour but didn't drop for some reason. it's this weird weather this winter.
has anyone got any ideas on what to put in the bucket water that i keep the swampy in besides seasol, to pump it up even faster??

One had both green and brown leaves - so some were dropping off. The other hasn't lost a single leaf and everything is bright green with new shoots everywhere. This one never had a single leaf go brown and fall off.

If I think about it tomorrow, I'll take photos of all five of them.

awsome cheers man, at my local bonsai nursery some of his are bald and some are so green and full of shoots. weird tree's
when the limbs become thick are they hard to wire like quince or fairly easy to bend like ficus? i havn't wired mine yet.
