collected desert ash
Re: collected desert ash
Ant,
What magnificent bark, whatever you try I reckon it will look great. Losing the righthand branch was a good call.
Cant help but notice from other shots you've posted how empty the backyard was in 2007, you are a busy man.

Re: collected desert ash
Recently some of the ladies asked about rotting issues when making big cuts under the root ball. Today i repotted this tree and im pleased to say everything went according to plan. The severe chop across the bottom and side of the root ball + the elimination of any other unwanted roots last winter has payed dividends 3 fold. Today i was rewarded with a brilliant, healthy and thriving radial spread that i can now detail and ramify in future. The other most significant achievement is the healing of the cuts. After a good trimming, i would like to share these pics with you all. By the time i got it into a pot it got dark so the final pic will have to wait. I am extremely satisfied with these results in the time span with collected material.

Looking good Ant, those big cuts under the trunk encourage basal flare as well.

Re: collected desert ash
Hi Ant what a pleasure to see such a beautifully potted tree no mounds, nice and flat in the pot with a bit of a lip for watering, there is no doubt correct root work in the early stages of a trees development pays huge dividends . I would have placed it just slightly to the right of the pot but thats just a personal taste issue.

Re: collected desert ash
Thanks Craig, The proof sure is in the pudding. I did originally have it a little more to the right but the wire tie has pulled it over. I will tweak it back again.
Thanks blkrota.

A first class piece of material in good hands, you've already cleared the first major hurdle to owning a great bonsai ... choosing good stock.

Antonio, this looks great. That trunk has come a long way in only a few short years. Well done!

He pops up here and there at the clubs. Last time i saw him he was in good form. Not sure if he's a member here! He certainly is a soldier for improving Australian Bonsai. Sais it how it is, needless to tell ya what happens after that!
