I am using Kanuma on all my Azaleas at the moment and they seem to like it good

G'day Banksia, I asked Arthur the exact same question a while back, I'm sure he won't mind me printing you his reply - with fair credit now given


If you use a full cascade pot fill it 1/3 with pieces of rock - nothing
small - then up to the 1/2 way mark with Large Kanuma and the remaining half
equal parts of Medium and Fine Kanuma, but in two defined layers.  It is
essential that the pot drains very, very freely.  No water reservoirs.  Any
water hanging around will kill Satsuki very fast.
As the Satsuki is encouraged to form surface roots you must be mostly
concerned with the top half of the pot.
Water retention in Kanuma is perfect for Azaleas but Kanuma also drains very
well, is slightly acid and "breathes" well.

Hi Banksia, thats a great azalea you have there. I would like to see the foliage pads more defined so it looks like a tree. I dont know if you visit the IBC website if you do there is a cascade azalea there by an artist called penjing, the post is called "satsuki in the early fall". I tried to copy the link for you but it didn't work. If you get a chance have a look it my give you some ideas.

Hi Neal its a beauty thats for sure. This artist keeps posting them one after the other and all superb. What I love about the cascade is thats its easily achievable in one lifetime.

Think i'll have to join up to that site hey, never seen it before. I want to know what variety that cascade is. I'm guessing kakuo which we have here in WA now, not available yet but the three wise monkeys are propagating it now
