I did a google picture search after reading this and found it hard to find a literati that had less than 7 bends although as I guess is suggested by the triangle puzzle you could count bends in bends and where does the trunk end in literati? . As always though something like this can not be taken at face value you have to think about why Salvatore is suggesting it.
The definition of art should be WHY!
It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.
A requirement of seven bends in the trunk of a literati is ridiculous. I am not aware of any requirements for the trunk other than it should have very little taper. It could be straight as an arrow. Good old Salvatore's mind must have been bent seven ways to the wind when he uttered that pronouncement.
I guess I shouldn't laugh at Reiner's assessment, but I can't help it!
Just to check whether Salvatore's own trees included any literati, I checked his website and found these two: http://www.liporace.it/english/pag02_2.htm I don't think he counted the bends on these, and
wasn't that a blessing?
