Yeah I know what the better /more sound option was, yet that is also the most boring... Plenty more $16 pines to apply the chop and grow method too. I find the fact that it might rot away exciting, as I can tell their is a hell of a lot of force compressed into those turns, held only by jute twine guildlines. No metal / wire used in the entire process. Total cost $5, no roles of wire gone either. 
Like you said we shall see, and time will indeed tell!
