The Kokufu Ten exhibition is held once a year in early February in Tokyo. The exhibition is normally held at the Metropolitan Art Museum, although in 2011 it is going to be held at a different location due to renovations at the museum. There are other exhibitions that happen in Japan, mostly through the winter months, like the Gafu Ten and Taikan Ten.
There is a website for Bonsai in Asia where you can get information about the various exhibitions, and also some permanent displays. There is also the bonsai village at Omiya. I was only able to get to Kokufu, and the other destinations are on my list for the next visit.

Its interesting to note that the major Japanese exhibitions are held during the winter months when the deciduous trees are bare and the growers can show off their beautiful trunks and amazing ramification. I don't know about other states but here in Vic. most exhibitions are held while our deciduous trees are in leaf. Maybe all of us need to work harder on our deciduous trees so they can be displayed to their full potential in winter.

Well, It's held in a Museum, so I figure that it is just museum rules, and whilst taking one photo with my "point and shoot" camera, I was only gently reminded of the rule. I doubt there would have been much said if I had taken a few more, but I wasn't really going to test it. Besides, the exhibition book that comes out has much better photos that I can ever imagine to take.
