Hi Simo yes basically they rot at the base without any sign . They can die from humidity growing in Winter with a cover allowing the moisture to rot the base .I gave up on Atro's and Bloodgoods for that very reason. Cheers Alpine

What a fantastic thread, like I say, you never cease to amaze me Alpine!! :worship: Where on earth did you get 2000 seeds from?!? Can I ask you how you actually plant your trident seeds? do you stratify them i the fridge? if so, in what kind of medium? Or do you simple plant them in Autumn, and wait til spring for them to spring into life...pun intended :palm:
I put mine in zip lock bags for 90 days on damp paper towel, then sowed them in a seed rasing mix in a seedling tray. so far none have sprouted, but I have heard they might sprout the next year. I have just ordered another 100 seeds to try some different methods, but if you could help me save some of that trial and error I would be very appreciative :D
Maybe we can have an update on some of these if you still have any?
Thanks,
Luke

HiLuke , mate i pick the seeds by the hand fulls 1000's of them , just after leaf drop or the first frost from tree's down the street .No stratification required for Trident and no pussy footing around Just hoe and sow straight into the garden bed .Then top dress the sown seed with about 10mm of soil to cover the seed or the birds will have a field day .They get cold enough in the frozen ground over winter so i suppose you could say the are semi stratified . Last year i collected around 1500 seedlings from the same tree's just shovel them up and into trays to all of 2 minutes , then plant the into the grow beds .Japanese Maples are the same , collected seed or seedlings .Will get some pics up for you today .

Cheers Alpine

Hi Mate , a snatch strap and the 4X4 gets them out real quick , without any effort .Mind you i dont think a 20 m strap will reach , just managed to get the other mother out by bush bashing the Jackaroo .Mine are magnets for red spider mite , aphids and thrip .Amazing what a can of fly spray will do .Catch up soon ,maybe the next A/W bonsai club meeting last Saturday every Month .Hope to be on my footsy by then .

Cheers Alpine
