I took this cedar into Hiro last night which has been my intention for a long time. He told me to remove the two lower branches would be ok but would make the tree boring. Hiro said I need to lower both the first branch and the back branch and to step the foliage as I have done in the upper part of the tree. He told me the upper part of the tree was very beautiful in both its styling and in the distribution of foliage. I am still not completely sold on the idea of keeping these two branches (this was confirmed by another bonsai artist for whom I have a great deal of respect, who said he would have removed them). I will however carry out the work recommended by Hiro and see what it looks like.

Craig any update on this? Keen to see what path you took? Also how long does it take to get that kind of trunk thickness?
