These lumps are formed when branches become too thick and clunky, and then over generations are removed, regrafted, then redeveloped and re-ramified.
These imperfections are actually appreciated and revered for their reason and age, the subsequent redevelopment process, effort and commitment.

Firstly, thank you for posting directly into this thread.

I am sure you are busy so taking the time to update this thread is appreciated.

If possible, it would be great to get your thoughts on this tree - it’s past, now and into the future.

I prefer this tree clothed - rather than naked - for reasons that noted above but that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate the skill to curate a tree such as this and the fact that others may love such trunks and trees.

Further, I am a rank amateur - it is fair to say that I don’t have a tree in my collection that deserves to sit in the shadow of advanced trees like this.

Anyway - thanks again for posting - it’s the middle of the night here and sadly I can’t sleep. Perhaps I’ll now meditate on this tree and other bonsai and drift back to sleep.

full size very large trees have a rounded silhouette which if copied translates into an uninteresting bonsai-- I need a bit more mongrel shaping(more spacing for 'the birds to fly through') as if it has had a hard life, not a cruisy life in a lush green field. Of course having said that, I certainly wouldn't "kick this one out of bed"

This thing is a beast.

Big base, nice flare, bark etc.

Needs some fine elegant ramification though.

B - tree at the minute.

Is this an unsolicited critique thread on a tree by another member of the forum? I’m not sure that is ok.

I dare say a professional artist doesn’t need comments about their trees to be wrapped in cotton wool and ‘Please sirs’. If we were flaming a beginner it would be different.

If that’s going to be the rule then we should all give up any exchange of information if we cannot comment on other people’s trees without permission. There goes all the posts about Kokufu/ Japan trips, club shows, example trees to guide beginners or trees used to influence our design choices just to touch the tip of that particular iceberg.
