thanks stymie for your reply, in our conservatory it gets light but it is around 8 degrees c at night so i will move it in house. ive been putting a smaller one out in garden through day andconservatory at night its had no leaves on top for a good few weeks now do you think the temp is causing it, im in greater manchester i will go to wee trees ive been trying to find uk website like this one ...thanks

im now wondering if its a good time to repot as lots of roots in bottom of pot.and how does it respond to root pruning should i take one third or is that too much for it at the moment

i made a mistake it is not 35-40 inches its 45cm from soil sorry...5inch trunk

i have just remeasured it is 3 inch at top and 4 and half bottom. when i have removed some medium under tree i will be able to measure at its thickest part which will be 5 inch maybe a bit more...

Hi Penny when you remove the medium, I would really appreciate it if you get a closeup photo of the trunk with a measure next to it like a Coke can. You may quite possibly have one of the thickest trunks for a Bonsai in the world. If you were to purchase that tree in Australia I reckon you would be looking at over $450

ive took a couple using a cig and cigarette 20 pack i didnt know they dont come with big trunks i hope it is worth that much saying im skint....

Hi Penny, it is hard to say because we don't know how long it was in the ground for. That growth looks like about 10 years in the ground but all in all as a rough guess I would say about 12-14 years???

Penny don't let that discourage you and don't let fear get the better of you. Try and follow Stymie's advice and see what happens. You have a VERY unique specimen there. I would'nt be giving it away that's for sure. Don is very experienced and knows what he is talking about. I honestly don't think 8 degrees is going to be a problem as long as there is no presence of frost. Serissa's are pretty tough.
