Geez sno - I’m a fan of the little trees in your post. Especially the birch and it’s cool cream pot and the ginkgo group too. Whether by luck or good judgement - I like the whole composition of the ginkgo photo including the interesting mirror and green vase in the background too - that whole ‘foresty thing on glass’ works for me!

Kerrin, I think this is a wonderful tree - yes for the colour of the leaves but mostly for the interplay of the tree, the pot and the ground cover. The magic of the two tone pot, resembling the trunk and providing a wonderful contrast with the green ground cover; both the moss and what look to be other grass type things. Just a gem in terms of pleasing design - at least to my eye. [THUMBS UP SIGN]

Great to view these lovely colourful trees, so thanks to everyone who has taken time to post pics.

Kez, your tree looks beautiful. I gotta agree with MJ's comments above, but wish to add that importantly you have achieved to create some great visual age here.

Not really bonsai related but abit of the front garden . Its still dry as hell at our place but at least a few trees are turning. really need a few cOLD nights after Anzac day to get some of the later maples started .

I am really hoping that my bonsai maple forest gains a nice colour this year .... not sure.

In the meantime, the maples in my small courtyard are looking lovely - if a tad burnt on the edges. Not bonsai but hey, they about 20 years old in pots!

If you look closely you’ll see a couple of my native comp entries ... so sort of bonsai related.

Your garden trees are looking good Mark, between my bonsai getting badly burnt in very late summer, and my Golden Full Moon Maple garden plant turning ginkgo yellow but then dropping quickly in the last 2-3 days; my JM autumn is sucking pretty hard this year.

My ginkgos are starting to get the first hints of colour now so hopefully they will put on a decent show

At least we each can take some small heart together in the knowledge that neither of us is missing out on amazing autumn colour. I think I’m going to have to move towards full summers in a shady spot or under shade cloth from here. I think out Australian summer sun is just too strong, and it’s too much effort and work lost to even one or two hot days. A re think of the layout is in order.

Beautiful flower! Always fun when the plants get tricked into thinking it’s spring way too early!

If your JM will tolerate it, you might consider a late-ish defoliation to get some fresh leaves for autumn. I did a couple of mine in early February this year - considered late for Canberra - and they shot back well.

I defoliated one and it tried to push a few new leaves out but has given up. The other was quite weak when i got it last year so i didn't want to stress it further by defoliating it this year.

I love autumn colours as I do not get much here
usually just a Pin Oak and Liquidambar but no sign as yet of them changing
