I didn't make it to the show due to prior commitments, but some lovely trees there. I was all ready to sound off a deciduous as my favorite, but that Hinoki is an absolute stunner. Close run between that and the big alder!
Another calm contribution by Tim

And here's a further bit of info for you that I found interesting. The European Beech at 1.40 - amazing ramification - on the day, I got talking a friend and very experienced bonsai artist that knows the history of this tree. Through that discussion, I believe that many (maybe even most?) of the branches on that tree are grafted!!! Amazing skills. I reckon anyway. @DavidN - if I am wrong with that, I apologise. Thanks again for a great event and for keeping Shibui's tridents for me. Much appreciated.

PS - My favourite tree in the exhibition? So many to choose from but for me - the Mugo. Wonderful!

The Hinoki was very nice... lovely trunk and the ramification that has been achieved was impressive. My favourite angle was looking up into the branch structure from underneath!
My favourite tree overall though was the Mugo. The needle size was impressive and I really enjoyed the taper in the trunk, it had a fantastic base too. I’d be proud to own anything close to that.
The twin trunk liquidamber was also pretty sweet, the best one I’ve seen anyway. In honesty... too many to mention. Congrats to all involved at Bonsai NorthWest - impressive to say the least.

I talked to the owner of the twin trunk 'liquidamber'. He believes it is some sort of pear species. I'll take the blame for that one because I put that label out on Friday night  . There were a few other plants I think may have been mislabelled too.

Any wrong labels were Shibui's fault, I placed absolute trust in him.

Thanks Gerard :P
On Sunday I noticed a couple that I'm pretty sure were misnamed and I did not put those ones out so I'm not taking all the credit this year :shake:

Being interested in smaller bonsai I took particular note of a couple of little shimpaku. Both these are around 20-25cm tall I guess.

and a lovely little Hinoki that I think everyone else overlooked. You really had to get down low and look this one in the face. This one is probably only 15cm tall but has good structure for such a small tree.

This multi trunk trident is a little larger but still on the smaller side. It has a way to go for the branches to fully develop but the alignment of the trunks is very good. Look forward to seeing it in another 5-10 years will better branch structure.

Several people asked me, 'who won the peoples choice?' I have not heard yet but hopefully someone will chime in.

I heard the very big black alder? QV I think got the most votes followed by the large cascade blue cedar but wait for someone to confirm or correct that before congratulating anyone.

I can confirm that the large Black Alder did win the People's choice.
