Any red on your trident is most likely new foliage pushing through I'd reckon, given Autumn isn't quite here and I'd doubt things are cooling down terribly much up your way. They aren't here yet.... still a few months to go!

Perhaps you are right mate :) however i do have a number of leaves that are far from new. We are a tad backward in QLD after all :lol:

Could it sometimes be triggered by other factors? I have seen a change in my liquidamber too yet its still stinking hot :lost:

PS i found that grasshopper and snapped its head off!

Trees lose leaves because they are sucking the nutrients out of them to survive the cold winter.

It can also happen when the tree is excessively stressed from heat for example.

I remember reading forums last year during that monster el nino north americans posting pictures of their japanese maples leaves turning red in summer, due to the heat stress!

I saw some big liquidambers in penrith last week showing the same signs.
