No bad smell in the roots at all. Looks like it's in need of a definate repotting though.would this be my problem. Is it to late in spring to do it.

No smell at all. But looks badly pot bound. I'm guessing this is my problem.

When you say it's not to late to repot, do you also mean it's not to late the prune back the roots.

If you have enough experience and confidence you should be able to remove the bottom half of the rootball and then slip pot it back into the same pot. Aftercare is important too ! It doesn't appear to me that root rot is an issue - that appears to be a very healthy rootball. I would suggest you may have problems with the tree getting enough water if anything :lost:
