Will do Andreas,
I'm not sure if I can get heavy enough wire here, I'll probably have to get it from south so I'll improvise for now, one bend to start with.

You use copper kable wire, but have to soften it by heating it up on a BBQ and than throw it into a water bucket. Copper has more bending power 35-40% more.

Deanna, the State (Territory) Electrical guys use a nice heavy aluminium wire to carry power around the suburbs. If you can find them working around Darwin anywhere ask them if they have any offcuts. Usually find lengths a bit over a meter long they've cut off things. Tell them what you want it for and most times they'll leave a piece or two laying on the ground

You're right about those Mastotermes darwiniensis as well, the buggers will eat through concrete to get to a nice succulent piece of wood.

I know exactly what you are talking about Graeme, I have a piece around here somewhere the kids found on the side of the road years ago but I can't find it. I haven't seen any power and water guys out and about lately, have to wait till the wet when lightning starts hitting the power lines.
