Steven - the pot was made by Lynette and I purchased it a few years ago (at Bonsai by the Harbour I think it was).
We all need to support the local potters.

Great Crab Apple Watto, shame you couldn't stay for the Saturday night at the Tops,this is when all the serious Bonsai discussions go on,espesially after a couple of good reds. Would like to see more of your trees on here.

The tree is smashing!!! Really looks stunning. I like the pot but I don't find the two harmonious. I would like to see the crabapple in a glazed pot, softly coloured and an oval shape. The pot has a rugged look to it and would highlight a juniper, pine or native very nicely but I think it is too rugged for the grace and gentility of the tree.

Appreciate your thoughts MelaQuin. I will consider (and probably look around the pot shops) between now and the next repot in August next year.

I just noticed this thread. I'm at the other end of the year to you and have been harvesting my crabs for jelly today. The tree in the attached photograph will be reduced in height substantially when the 85 apples have been removed. I enjoy the flowers but am looking towards more bonsai and less flowering bush this time. An overall restyle I think. Watch out for the new shape.

Thanks for the photos, maybe we should start a crabapple fan club? Just joking, but I do like the crabapple because it does something at all times of the year. I like yours and am especially impressed with the red fruit. Looking forward to your improvement plan.
In July of this year I had another one of my crabapples "critiqued" by Peter Adams during his visit to Australia and I have attached a photo in its decidious state with just a few yellow apples on it.

Nice to see these trees the little fruits are cools and can be made into jam. stymie do send jam jars for taste testing ?

What this one lacks in height, it makes up for in fruit.

Does having that many fruit on such a small plant put a lot of "presure" on the plant?

hey watto, you said the trunk on the first picture tree is 65cm in width .Is that right Or was the tree that it came from was 65cm That is awful big mate, its not like sometyhing that youd easily carry along with you.Hey?

Some of my fondest moments of the öld dart"are when I visited my father in law and tried some of his fresh liquid apple jelly (aka cider)
