I would avoid any finish other than pure beeswax on wet areas. In my struggle for a benign solution and to avoid lime sulpur (bless it) I resolved to try squeezed lemon juice repeatedly to see if this could approach the conventional bleached timber method. The acid would need managing probably but maybe would help ameliorate other issues like pest species .. I imagine many learned souls have comtemplated this issue. before me. I just know lemon juice is pretty good at bleaching/cleaning my hands when nothing else does. Otherwise 12-18 months in a sunny position and they will turn a lovely silver grey?......naturally!!
