Very valid and interesting entries you've all made, and they are being scrutinized by our judges as we speak (except maybe Bretts' entry  ).

Sadly, this copy of the book isn't signed by any of the Koreshoffs as far as I know, but I am willing to sign it myself if that will help its 'prizeability'. :D

Thanks all, and good luck!

Fly.
Whats wrong with my entry it is imformative, honest (not like some of these buggers) and even has a little humor thrown in.
I reckon mine is easily the front runner at the moment.
Brett why do you want a clean copy I thought you were used to reading dirty books

Hi there everyone,

My favourite species is natives. I have only one that could be called a bonsai, and that was bought from a nursery! Plenty of sticks in pots, but they dont inspire.
I need help and guidance and the Korshoff book would be a huge lift to my knowledge, ability and confidence.

hopefully,
cricklewood

Thanks for the good PR, Mr Pup! ;)

I should mention that I am happy to consider multiple entries in this Contest: if you think of something you have left out, or wish to clarify your original statement, feel free to post again. The winner will be the AusBonsai Member who makes the strongest case overall.

Good luck all!

Fly.

Hi Fly and all,
I would like to win this book as I have put my money and time into growing natives (gums, casuarinas, melaleucas, banksias etc.) from seed or small stock but rely almost independently on this board for advice. The Koreshoff's book would enable me to learn, in greater detail, about the techniques and requirements for the little seedlings I have going at the moment. I have some exotic species but as a proud Australian I believe it is essential we show the rest of the world how interesting and variable our species can be (particularly as bonsai). Also, from a conservationalistic view-point we should aim to promote the propagation of our many threatened or vulnerable species, to increase the knowledge-base associated with them and show that our trees and shrubs are real fighters! ;)

Kind of sounds like an informal essay conclusion...oh well, it's what I think anyway!
Cheers for the opportunity Fly, this is a great way to share the knowledge! :)
- Pat

I grow indigenous trees for bonsai because I have a life long love affair with indigenous trees. It is the little twisty bottlebrush or the large paperbark with the rope swing growing by my childhood swimming hole that turns me on. Or thee broad crowned fig on the beach crest on Maggie Island were mum, dad, my siter and I shaded for our picnic lunch. For me it is the wonder of looking up inside the hollow trunk of a stangler fig and wondering who lives there that I want to bring in and display in my home or garden. Or that little bushy wattle out their on the horizon when I look out the window on a long drive through grasslands. Maybe that great milky pine that survived cyclone larry, not a leaf or branch, but look at it now! A mass of green arrising from a great fluted butress, yes that is what turns me on. I can't bring them all home and fit them in my garden (although I try- my whole garden is native) but I can grow them as bonsai, bring them into our home and have a little cameo of them there.

I have never seen a pine, or a juniper, or a maple in the wild- as bonsai they just look like, well, bonsai to me. I am happy to let them be someone elses picnic tree.

Okay I'm back. When this started i had no books on bonsai at all and well now i do. Bonsai in Australia by Dorothy & Vita Koreshoff is a great book and has helped me understand some good ways to follow to get good results. Being new to bonsai i need all the help i can get so i would like to win this book to help me venture threw my path to Australian Natives as Bonsai.

Gday Chris!

Even though the Contest officially ended at 6:00 PM yesterday, I'll allow your entry as I was busy trying to fireproof our yard when I should have been closing the thread.

Thanks to all who entered, and I hope to come up with a winner within the next 24 hours.

Stay tuned.

Fly.

Thanks KC - great minds think alike.

While I'm here, I should take this opportunity to announce that our esteemed panel of judges has found a winner, and it was not an easy task. The Winner of the Koreshoff Book Giveaway is...

bonscythe by a whisker!!! Ash ran a very close second, and the judges spent a goodly amount of time examining the finish photo. Believe me when I say that this almost came down to a coin toss...

Well Played, AusBonsai members!

If bonscythe would be so kind as to contact me via PM, I will arrange for prompt delivery of the 'Bible Of Oz Bonsai'!

Thanks to all who participated, and commiserations to those who did not win. There were lots of very worthy entries, but unfortunately only one copy of the book to give away...

Fly.

Congratulations bonscythe. I guess I will have to stick with the exotics even though Pup thinks otherwise I don't like dirty books.
