Hey all, ended up winning the 34 piece set pretty cheaply off ebay, it just arrived today and it is HUGE! and heavy!
So I'll be another test case and let you all know how it goes with the cheap and nasty stuff.

Good stuff! Now, Go out and buy the following. 2 x medium plastic containers, two x small cloths, some turps and some oil. After each time you use the tools, rub them down with some turps to remove the sap and sterilise them, and then with the oily rag (WD40 will do) to stop them from rusting. If you keep them nice and sharp they'll serve you well.

ok cool, will do, and then when I use them again do I need to clean off any oil before cutting a branch etc? i.e. is the oil going to damage the tree?

If you use WD40 or vegetable oil you will not need to remove it, but it should only be a light smear so there is no tendency for your fingers to slip.

Hey all, just reporting on my progress so far with this ebay kit.
All seems to be well, I clean and oil the tools after each use, and if I miss a bit it rusts pretty quickly.
Even though it is a massive kit, I tend to use only the wire cutting, root rake, root shears, root cutter and leave cutter. I'm sure the rest will come in handy as I do more work.
So all in all I can't complain, just gotta keep em clean and oiled!
