I agree Boics, and the owner really doesn't know anything about bonsai, it was just a gift that they've tried to keep alive, so they've basically given me the go-ahead to do what I like with it. Will work on it again late winter next year.

just an update on this tree as of today... owner just sent me this pic...

The good old no water trick no doubt....
Doesn't take much to push the limits and undo years of good work.

Sad to see as this was clearly headed in a better direction of health and style.

What a shame

I guess you will know what to say next time they ask you to save a tree
