Another example of the "Chop epidemic" that affects many bonsai .... er.... artists ( :lost: ) on this forum.!!
Yes, some cutting and pruning is needed, but in your place I'd think about it long and hard. And watch out: the Leptospermums are REALLY sensitive shrubs and you don't treat them the way you do a Chinese elm. Which species is this? If it is the Leptospermum scoparium, or Manuka, repotting is very, very risky (no kidding!), because they react quite badly to root manipulation. Other species are much easier, like the Leptospermum petersonii, or lemon-scented tea-tree. Don't repot unless you have to, and certainly not if the little tree is doing well in its present environment.
Generally: get to know the characteristics of your tree before you do ANY work!
And THINK BEFORE YOU CHOP!

i am guessing your have some regrets of your own on your own trees...
There was no demeanor attatched to my reply CK, if you do not want to learn then do not post trees and ask for other members advice. Of course i have learnt the hard way and this is why i "try" to help you, but again my opinion falls on deaf ears.

I will refrain from posting anything at all in future,,

CK, don't expect anyone to reply to your posts if that's what they get in return. Craig has experience and a good eye. And he was right in my opinion. He is also usually civil.

Easy goes you guys dont have a crack at him or us because we are not into your idea. :shake: Craig and Lisa, What will he regret and what does he need to think twice about cutting off a straight trunk. ??? Chris, Naturalistic doesnt mean you cant design with dynamic movement, whats Japanese traditional got to do with what Cali wants to achieve out of his tree ??? He obviously doesnt want the luggage that at this trees worth, time and place in life is definately not necessary. Not all of us want instant bonsai !!! Well done Cali you know and understand your material and have learnt well, this is bonsai !!! Find the smallest most dynamic tree/trunk line in what other wise is a very ordinary piece of stock and go for it !!! From this you can either make a great dynamic shohin or grow on and make a better, larger dynamic tree :tu:

PS. really enjoyed Lisa's Condescending Preconceived judgemental rant... thanks lisa, (im part of the chop epidemic am I ??????) :hooray:
Good points on Leptospermum though!! I lost one after a repot in 2010!! They like gravel and rough soil. (not too much water!)..
Patience is a virtue.

Crickey now I can see why people don`t like to comment on my tree`s if they get their head bitten off like poor old Craigh did.
I though this was supposed to be a friendly forum. :crikey: :lost: :lost:

Hi all
Please remember that we all have differing opinions and differing tastes.

If you offer a suggestion to a thread, Expect that mabey 50% of the time the advice will not be taken, so please do not get upset and then come back with a smart remark!.

If you post a tree and do not express your view that it is not for comment, then assumption is that you are asking for ideas and Critique, so do not get upset when someone does not agree with your views.
