Gday Team Oz!
I spent a couple of hours at the BNW Show yesterday, and I would like to extend my congratulations to DavidN and his clubmates for putting on a great turn! Having arrived at the Yarraville Club a couple of minutes early, I was surprised to see a queue of enthusiasts stretching a hundred metres or so from the door (I believe our Mr Bowie might have a photo). The sales area was crowded and frantic early in the piece, but everybody seemed in good spirits and there were no punch-ons.
The display area was of a size that allowed each tree to be displayed in it own space, and I wouldn't guess as to the number of trees on show. The tree(s) that best sticks in my mind is a large windswept group of Melaleuca bracteata (which I believe is a Brian Sampson creation), but there were other highlights too numerous to mention.
I met DavidN again and tried to chat as best we could, but as you might imagine, he was a little busy. Jow and I had a good yak as we wandered about the exhibit, and I also met Damian Bee, and we talked a bit about natives. Unfortunately, I didn't get to introduce myself to Grant Bowie, but I guess that can wait until he comes to pick up some of my trees for the National Collection...
This was my first ever visit to a BNW Show, and I think it was a great success! I hope all goes well today.
Thanks!
Fly.

I am so jealous! We didnt get to have our normal scheduled show this year - and there seems to be a bit of a hole as a result!
Maybe I should organise myself for a visit next year!

Re: Bonsai Northwest Exhibition and Sale - October 24th - 25th
Sorry I missed you Fly. I would love to meet you.
My wife and I were on our way home after a short holiday and could not stay too long but I could not miss the show.
We arrived elegantly five minutes before opening time thinking we could just stroll in but when we turned the corner there was this whopping big queue. We hopped in the queue and waited patiently for the show to open and it was like a gun went off and the crowd surged forwards into the club. The sales area was a mad house so we had a good look around the show and said hello to all those I know where time and crowds would allow.
The show was great and a credit to the nervous organisers.
It certainly shows Bonsai is very healthy in the south. I hope we can get some of these trees for the NBPCA in the future; especially the....

Not to worry. Turns out that I was only a metre or two away in the queue, and didn't realize it was your good self until we were inside and somebody called out to you, by which time the mayhem had begun... You almost got a photo of me though: Is the ANPAB Group having a show this year? I might have to visit the ACT again soon...
Thanks.

Hi Fly,
I just checked the CBS Canberra Bonsai Society website and they have it listed for next year March 13th and 14th 2010. They now run the show.
They have moved it to autumn as the CBS show and Floriade all fall in spring and having the native show then was just too much.
I hope all of those interested in natives will check out the show and the NBPCA at the same time.
