perhaps :lost: i don't know how many years is "a few years ago". i have had these two for 11 years now and i bought them off a private collector who targeted and bought trees potted in expensive japanese pot. according to John H who works here and have been around the bonsai community for the last 40 odd years, they could have been the possessions of one of the few founding members of BSV, who is now no longer with us :( .
and it also shows how slow they are to thicken. i have seen 3 year old blue cedar field grown for another 2 years to reach the trunk thickness of the two i have(i'd estimated their age to be 50-60 years) but with no taper and no low branches. so they can thicken fast, but it would have resulted in a tree with minimal bonsai potential. :imo:
