Great looking tree, and great looking pots Pup. Those trees deserve something special and you have chosen correctly :aussie:
I wrote a little post called 'the value of an Australian/locally made pot' last weekend which also suffered the gremlin attack, thankfully you posted this which kind of wraps it up :tu2: (although I am late to the parade there I think :palm:)
If this potter had not received the intrest, encouragement and patronage of colleagues and bonsai growers, Pup may have put these trees into a pot made overseas which would have been fine, but would the composition have the same effect?
Craig, even though your observations take courage to express and may have merit RE the tree in question, you have to remember :lost: it's not your tree and if you truly want to make those changes then you had better start saving :2c: :2c: :2c: :2c: :2c: :2c: :2c:
The last half a dozen posts or so do point out however that this forum and the people on it work well together when it comes to discussion/critique of a tree.
But back on track, the trees together with those pots look great :hooray:

Another great tree Pup.. I'd be happy to sit it on my benches

I think there has been enough critiquing of this tree without adding my :2c: worth, but I do agree with the general consensus.
“Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless - like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup, you put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle, you put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be like water, my friend.”

Pup, the new pots look fantastic and they set your trees off really well, :tu2: Lorraine is to be congratulated !
Also as we all well know there is no thing as a "finished" tree ( live one at least!)
I bet they will continue to grow and evolve to however you wish them to be! P.S. Mrs Pups tree seems to be lacking iron? :palm: ....Dog.

This tree has come a long way in a short time, it has always been in a Bonsai pot since its training started in 2004.

It is the subject of a lot of want. The Boss wants it some of my many friends want it.
My life has been threatened if I sell it so I do not intend to commit suicide.

It does disprove that it has to be in the ground this has always been pot grown since it was dug in 2003.

Here is the picture of it when it was first put in a bonsai pot.

An update, this tree was critiqued last year by Hirotoshi Saitoh, he gave me a swelled head as his comment was COMPLETE, when I asked he said exhibition class tree.

So I was well pleased with his thoughts.

amazing the amount of girth its put on without being "fast tracked" in the ground or grow pot. I remember walking around the Fremantle exhibition seeing this a few years back in 2012 and being stunned as i spotted it. awesome tree.

Hi Pup,

Thank you for the updated photo, appreciate it. That looks sensational, for me its the best its looked out of all the photos of it. The fuller canopy completes the image and it wouldnt look out of place at a coastal golf club that gets battered by winds.

Love it.

Cheers

David

p.s out of all your trees that I have seen, this would have to be my favourite.

What an absolute beast!
The epitome of strength!

IMO great move not to cut the top off.
This would have been a short term move for short term gain.
The tree is much more "complete", less scarred and superior in style.

Super tree, photo and pot combo.

One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

Thanks for posting, Pup - it's invaluable to see the progression over these years. The foliage is becoming very refined indeed, not too solid, not too open, and very natural. How long is the tree overall now?
