I no it seam's abit like us old fella's are beating you up a bit over this juni, but I've just had another look at it & if it was mine & I'm hearing you say here we go again but I'd try air laying about 100mm above the first branch, & wack that bit in a grow box & then I'd take the bottom bit leaving it in that pot & giving it a big feed to promote some growth into that first branch & then turn it into a very nice little semi cascade with the bit sticking up past that first branch I'd jin it

hahaha yes Hacker you seem to be the man at this, im getting boxes tomorrow but i might leave it in that pot until summer, its getting cold here in brissy! I'm all for the great advice thats why im here i would rather learn the smart way than the hard way so i thank everyones ideas, i really want these guys to go well!

Also Hacker did you see my second one... i would love some info on styling it, never tried juniper so sideways lol

As Pup says, this tree needs to recover from the what has been done to it, and coming into winter want help much. get it growing again before doing any air layering etc. it may take a while but I can't see why it wont make a full recovery.

there are plenty of articals on this forum about pruning and shaping junipers.

Hi sticks, this is an excellent design by hacker for your tree, as it is achievable in the short term. It is also what you said at the beginning that you did not want a fat trunk.

This one I am posting is a struck cutting of 5 years, it has the shari and jin that hacker has drawn. As you can see this is Shohin size which is one of my favorite styles of Bonsai.

Now those little Pic's The Pup has posted for you to look at are amazing & that is something that you can aim for in a very short time 2-3 year's will get you some very good foundation's & then over the next few year's you can build yourself a very nice little Shohin Bonsai hope all this has helped you as that's why we post all this stuff up here good luck

Hey stick, just thought I'd pop my head up. I don't have much experience either, but about a month and a half ago I slip-potted 4 of my trees that I wanted in bigger pots for various reasons. One was struggling a bit, but it's done them all wonders even in autumn (all but one Japanese maple sapling which got decimated by the neighborhood cats I think he'll make it though, seasol baths ). If you were planning on putting it in a poly box slip potting it now or at the very least at the beginning of spring would definitely give it an advantage let him really stretch out a bit after copping it...

pup that looks amazing!!! i would love to make something amazing like that... both ideas are sweet with me, if i can pull it off hehe, put im patient and i like a challenge, can you guys tell me now then where should i start

hope i can pull it off, also is this the right time to do it or is it better off to wait until closer to summer?? and is tree nusery tree i have going to be a bigger looking version of pups?!? how much should i keep as its growing a fair bit? i want this second one to flurish guys thanks all for your help! im off to the bonsai show in mt cootha for the day to entertain my nefew and get some more ideas and maybe buy a pot or two

i got rid of the darn weeds on it... at least make her feel bit more comfy, i have better pictures of the branch system at has at the moment
