is air layering above ground level not a possible solution?

Yeah Guy air layering is a possibility but I want to make sure what it is before I make a decision on an air layer probably not a good time of the year either to air layer as crab apples are going to sleep soon.

my first instinct would be that it would take too long and add more stress to any already stressed tree? :lost:
