Sorry - way out west. Hot dry winds. Daily temperature change from 20 something to forty-ish on hot days. It's days like that that do the damage, particularly as watering thrice daily is not an option - dawn and late at night are it.

perhaps a Light coloured shadecloth blanket on each pot(reduce direct sun on the pot but not on the plant)-overhanging by an inch or so --cut from the edge with a hole big enough to accommodate the trunk-fastened with a wire hook--allows watering --check under every couple days for pests

I've actually cut little bibs of denim (old jeans) with a keyholed slit. These sit on top the pot and, if wet in the morning, go a long way to keeping things damp but not wet (which is how I think I killed the olive - it got heat stressed and then I over compensated). The slaters love hiding under them

Are you joking with me Fats? 2 to 3 times a day, thats fine if your home all day mate. How is it tedious whaen it looks after itself nice one.

great drawing Sabamiki , that would be a great setup for your mini's mate, it would allow you to be away from home as long as needed.

I agree Craig, if I did not have the set up I have and the opportunity to water as often as needed. I would certainly build such a setup. Any one who is away from there trees on a hot day ( I am sometimes away for 8 hours) I worry about my trees.

As stated I have not had any serious problems. This set up would allow a very peaceful day of not worrying. This could also be adapted for your larger trees.
