if you gave this one to me i'd give it a good wiring 1.5 to the tips and give her a bit of style in the branches to mimic the form of the trunk (i say form because not only line but shape and depth are present), i wouldn't even cut anthing back, and grow those branches out at the bottom to fatten em just a little.

yo azz; thankyou you're a gentleman i'm afraid i'm cursed with the eye of a hairdresser! line character definately makes a difference. i will allow to grow free a little longer b4 i wire again.

Hey Ant, the hack LOL. Really good progression, I like the tree. Can you make a bud graft on the side with less branches if it doesnt break out with buds? Otherwise maybe stick another torulosa of slightly less hieght next to it, which would cover the missing branches. Thanks for showing!

hi Ed; thanks for that in put! not sure how i would go grafting with this kind of bark? i only want the lower branches for sacrafice to fatten up the base, not for aesthetic reasons. grouping up is a great idea though. must give this idea more consideration.

An Update! Yes this one needed a serious thinning on the top third of the tree. Those bottom two branches have thickened over the year from pinching and now this latest sorting out should finish them off. So what you see here is more about horticulture/ energy balancing and a little reinforcing of aesthetics. Hence why the bottom branches are allowed to extend. Come late spring more styling, ramifying and a pot!

Oh yeah BTW Azz i am trying really hard to be forgiving!

After seeing your treatment on the roots of the cas, i completely barerooted mine which i have been growing for about 17 years. it hasn't been potted for at least 5 years any way it has taken off like a rocket i am so happy to know i can treat these trees like that.

Good to hear Craig that means alot to me!!! I had the luck to find 3 young ones in a nursery last week. Haven't seen them down this way since i purchased my others 4 or 5 years ago. Every time i asked for them they'd say "oh their too big for the birbs'. Yeah right! Look out now that i know what im doin with them. Such a rackn these 3 are going to get. Mate you are always informative to listen too and an enjoyment to see your trees. Lookin forward to it!

Hey matt here it is >>> A little on the scrappy side in light of a change recently and this small pot has not done the neberi any favours. I believe this year it needs an airlayer on the top then a chop to the first branch and both in the ground by autumn next year !!! That ll take care of this wanna be.

Antonio, mate i like it the way it is , personally i would not chop to the first branch. I would however send it to another bigger pot for a couple of growing seasons. thanks for posting mate

Your right about the pot not doing it any favors, when did you pot it up? It's a great pot & loads of potential in the tree but not together.

I am finding my one an interesting species compared to cunninghamiana, slower all round but so much nicer in the long run. I will be interested to see how you go with an airlayer & if you get any back budding once its reduced to the first branch.
