fusing tridents
http://www.dugzbonsai.com/ I found this link about fusing tridents. It may be old hat for some of you but I found it amazing. Personally I don't really like the tree but it will no doubt improve with age. If you want to create super thick tridents in a short time have a look because this is a good way to do it.

Alpineart has done this with a post on this forum called "Pheonix grafted Trident Maple" on May 2nd. Look it up. Its amazing - although Alpineart has put his own spin on it.

Re: fusing tridents
Hi Ken I reckon casuarina would work nicely using this technique but I think the ultimate would be figs. My first reaction to the trident in this link was that it didn't look very natural at all but on reflection 10 years down the track it will most probably be a pretty spectacular tree.

Re: fusing tridents
If I had 5 grand to spend on a maple it wouldn't be that one I'd head for japan you could pick up something truly amazing there for that sort of money.

Re: fusing tridents
Will that method of "Super Trunking" work with
any tree. Would you also have to remove bark from
the seedling for them to fuse??
I think its a fascinating way to get a trunk that size.
The olive section is interesting too!!

Re: fusing tridents
gday craig
I have been trying and trying to get fig seed to germinate to do this, i just havent been able to get the seed to pop, as soon as i do i will be having a crack at something like this, on a shohin size scale
no bark needs to be removed, the saplings will eventually meld together. some trees wont work, but a lot will.
Jamie.

Re: fusing tridents
Jamie, if you use cuttings from the same tree you will be assured that the bark and leaves will be the same, where your seedlings will show some minor variations.
But just hurry up and do it already
