New forums for non Australian native species
G'day!
As part of our philosophy for continual improvement, we will be expanding the Exotics (Non native) section of the board. Currently we have only 2 species forums - Natives and Exotics. This will be changing to the following;
Australian Natives
Forum for discussion of Australian native species as Bonsai.
Deciduous
Forum for discussion of Deciduous bonsai – Maples, Crabapple, Hornbeam, Elm species etc
Evergreen
Forum for discussion of Evergreen bonsai – Buxus, Cotoneaster, Olive etc
Pines and Junipers
Forum for discussion of Pines, Junipers, Cedar etc as bonsai -
Flowering and fruiting
Forum for discussion of Flowering and fuiting bonsai - Azalea, Serissa, Apricot etc
Tropical
Forum for discussion of Tropical bonsai – Ficus, Bougainvillea, Fukien Tea, Dwarf Umbrella etc
Jamie has been appointed to the AusBonsai R&D team and delegated the arduous talk of sorting through the Exotics section and moving topics into the relevant forums. If you notice any errors or omissions, please let him or myself know via PM. We expect the process to be completed over this weekend.
If you have any questions or comments please don't hesitate to post them as a reply to this topic.
Regards,
Steven

Re: New forums for non Australian native species
I like the idea but I think a moderator is going to spend a lot of time moving items from one category to another. Refining the idea to so many sections is putting a lot of dependence on posters to get their items in the right place and also will be confused by the way a post on one species can lead to responses on another species. Just doing my usual bit of playing the Devil's Disciple but not negating the concept. Having 1] Natives and 2] 'Everything Else' is messy but one of the complications could be ficus... there will be a lot of non-native ficus lumped into ficus and vice versa. But what the hell - it will keep the moderators off the streets and out of trouble keeping the categories correct and who knows, that could be a good thing [joke].

Since it's a conifer, perhaps with the rest of the conifers?

well that was a thought aswell, my thoughts though is that it can be deciduous or evergreen aswell, if everyone is happy for them to go into the pines, junipers and other conifer sections then i will put them there

the streets will be a safer place nowbodhidharma wrote:Well done AusBonsai. Jamie, if you werent already of the street you are now. Good on you for putting your hand up.

Re: New forums for non Australian native species
i think someone could change pines and juni's to conifers, that is surely where it belongs, even if it is a deciduous conifer, or an evergreen conifer, it is still a conifer...Jamie wrote:anyone else have an opinion on where they want swampies to be?
and congrats jamie for your new role, i think you'll be great for it

You may have noticed pretty much all of the exotics section has be moved to there approriate areas, what i need you guys to do is if you come along anything that isnt supposed to be in that section or doesnt seem to be in the right section please let me know through this thread or via PM.
muchly appreciated
Jamie
ps. the 6 topics left in the exotics sections are shadows and will be fixed asap
