My first photo to this forum: Crabapple.

I attended the Illawarra Bonsai Society "Tops" weekend (only one day actually) and was "convinced" to post a photo of one of my trees. This is a crab apple that was obtained by air layering a few years ago, and it's in a one off hand made Australian pot.
My first real post.

What a debut: that Crab is a cracker! Looks like some awesome movement behind all the petals and leaves - can't wait to see it in the Winter months.

Hi watto. Nice tree, it has a nice flow to it. Did you do the aerial layering. How thick was the branch when you did the layering and how soon after did you cut it from the main tree. The pot also is cool. Petra!

Crab apples do not come any better than yours. I do mean that.

One of the best I have seen in this forum.

Could you please tell us how it copes with the heat? Do you let it bear any fruits after flowers?

Thanks for the kind comments. The trunk is about 65 cm in width and I air layered it off a tree in our garden. I have attached a photo taken a few weeks ago to show the movement in the trunk.

In answer to a few questions:
* the branch thicknes at the time of layering was about the same as it is now, around 60 to 65 cm.
* I layered in spring and removed the branch in late winter of the next year, so nearly 12 months.
* I grow all my trees outside and this one gets morning shade and afternoon sun and appears to handle it just fine. Wind tends to dry it but in the warmer months I water every day.
* last year I let some fruit develope, maybe 12 or so. This year I will be cutting all the flowers off soon as I am trying to get the tree to develope some improved branch structure.

How did I know your first post would be a ripper!
It must be something in the water in Goulburn.
It's a credit to you, mate; with all the restrictions it has no doubt been a testing time under difficult circumstances to grow one tree, let alone keep a collection alive and healthy.
Here's hoping Goulburn gets that new water supply they have been promised.
Having now seen one of your trees, I hope we are in for a treat from time to time with others from your collection.
I'll have the Tops weekend on my calendar every year after what was a great weekend of Bonsai.
For those who attended, this is Hi! See you at least next year! if not before.

Perhaps we need to boost your Goulburn Club Annual Show set for October 3 and 4, I hope to see you there at least one of the days.
