Jbp 1

Post by matlea »

Hi all, I thought I'd share this jbp I bought recently (BS). Gave it a tidy up to thin out a bit and initial style. Soil seems a bit compacted so I'll have to watch the watering compared to by other plants. Anyhow comments always welcome!

This was it before... And initial thoughts on future potting angle (give or take!!)

Great looking stick, especially love the change of angle!

I would try to keep the foliage close to the trunk, on b ranches you want to use......how big is the trunk? Are you happy with the thickness?

Ha.. Thanks... Yes not a bonsai yet!
I have tried to keep needles and branches close to the trunk... have to work with what i had...inner areas were being shaded out. i Intend to give a light feed and hopefully in spring it will have some back budding. Thickness of trunk is 55mm I will end up repotting into a larger/ wider training pot with the aim of thickening the trunk a bit more (should I use sacrifice branches as well?). Will be interesting to see what the roots are doing too!

You could have cut branches to last year's needles to promote budding.
Read this about sacrifice branches.

Thanks for the link. Thought that it might be a bit late for that so was going to cut back harder next season (couple of weeks from winter now)... All a learning experience.

I agree that its a bit late to cut back, you wanna save all the energy for winter. Could feed once or twice if its still warmish but I'd be waiting until jan/February to cut back hard for some back budding goodness

Again, great work so far

You need to make taper on the trunk...so sacrifice branches are never too late.
