Daintree Pine - Gymnostoma australianum

This was purchased from Glendale Native Nursery in a 4inch tub. $17

This species is very hardy. It is tolerant of a heavy mix and tolerates drying out.
It flowers constantly and is very pretty to enjoy.
It thickens quickly if you give it full sun and room to grow.
This species shoots back very well after cutbacks and so far this has been my favourite of the ones I have trialled.

I prefer to have my trees growing more naturally, so this will have a tall appearance, and not a lot of taper.
Growing most Australian species with a lot of taper in the trunk often ends up looking like a caricature in my eyes and looks unnatural.
The tree develops a growth pattern that is excurrent and thus it has a single or sometimes split trunk going up with branching coming out horizontally and downards to a gradual rise in growth. I plan to encourage this natural growth as best as I can.

This is in the family Casuarinacea. I read in a previous thread that they wanted to remove the flowers to concentrate on development.
I can assure you it is almost laughable that this tree would slow down from having the flowers removed. As you can see, from a years growth, they will thicken just fine with allowing the flowers to remain. I love seeing the constant flush of flowers these trees push out all the time and its a nice visual thing to have most of the year.
