Forum migration

Post by Steven »

G'day,

Last week you may have noticed AusBonsai was off the air for a few hours. Our web hosts decided, in their wisdom :lost:, that we were getting too big for them and they did not want our business anymore :tounge:
Well after some negotiating we reached a deal for them to 'plug' us back in - albeit temporarily. Part of the negotiating was for us to reduce the file size. After much consideration we decided to remove the search function database which contained millions and millions of files. Think about and Excel file with 10 million rows x 10 million columns  This is only a temporary measure. The database has been backed up and will be reinstated in the near future.

We have researched web hosts and made a decision about our new service provider. We have now purchased ample space and secured AusBonsai's new home until January 2022.

We are currently testing the best way to migrate the forum to the new home. So far, Gocny has spent over 20 hours testing and simulating the transfer. Everything is looking positive. At this stage it looks like the transfer will be done this coming Wednesday/Thursday. We will start around midnight ESDT and complete several hours later. You may not be able to visit AusBonsai during this time.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support of AusBonsai and appologise for the lack of search function and temporary down time.

Regards,
Steven

Thanks to all the 'behind the scenes' people...

Before the migration you might want to check that all passports and visas are current

I thought there might have been a problem when I could Google "microcitrus" results on the Ausbonsai list, but not find it on the site search...

Many, many thanks to those who keep this increasingly complex and informative enterprise functioning. All of us appreciate your work.

Good'ay Mates
Thanks so much for the your hard work. It's difficult to image all the work that goes on behind the scenes. How could you possibly even estimate how much room you need till 2022? I had wondered what had happened last week. I was having "lost ausbonsai syndrome". :worship:

Steven and Gocny thanks heaps for your efforts and every one else that is involved in this website it is amazing how much I have learnt in the last 12 months not only about bonsai but this computer stuff. I admit I was bit of a Luddite before stumbling across Ausbonsai (actually made my first call on my own mobile phone 2 days ago ,still haven't worked out if that was a good thing or not).Great stuff guys all the best .
