This winter I took some Arakawa hardwood cuttings and but them in 100% akadama. Almost 100% strike rate!
Yes, Arakawa is known to grow from cuttings better than some other types but this beyond my expectations. It's the hard type with the 3 lines on the bag. I will probably be able to use it again.

i did an airlayer but i dont know if it worked as well as your cuttings.

i dont see roots but there are leaves above the layer.

great success mike, what was you process as far as timing, nodes etc? For some reason i've always struggled to get JM to root from cutting

Collect in late winter, to 3 nodes. These internodes were extra long so I had no choice as to the length of the cutting.
Cut beneath a node to a sharp angle (both sides so you have a wedge) Use some hardwood-strength hormone. Stick into the mix. Water whenever top dries out. Trees should be semi-starved of N and in full sun before taking cuttings. Terra cotta is better than plastic.

Yes. But I'm sure the softer grades and kanuma will work just as well.
