Melaleuca Id

Post by Kelvin8r »

Hi All,

Who wants to have a crack at trying to id this Mel?

I've searched the aciar.gov.au website and whilst I've found a few Mels that look similar I can't really narrow it down to one.

Anyway, here's some pics

Cheers!

I am definitely no expert, but I have Ivan Holiday's "A Field Guide to Australian Native Flowering Plants: Melaleucas" and the closest I can see in there is a unnamed species from around Albany:

The "Albany Paperbark", Melaleuca croxfordiae, could be this tree?

Flowers will give you a better idea... Might be a bit of a wait for those but Redsonic seems to be somewhere near it comparing his post and your pics... Good get!

Yep flowers will definitely help, but could definitely be a bit of a wait. this definitely seems the closest so far. A long way from Albany :)

So we didn't have to wait long for flowers after all, Elmar took a trip past these two trees this morning and found some in flower. Here are some more photos he took.
