Pup do you mean in general? Or specifically in order to fix the problem caused by the over fertilization?
I had a similar problem with one of my Banksia serratas, A banksia specialist nursery man from South West told me what the problem with mine was. I tried it and it has worked.
Cheers Pup

Great news guys, although I'm sure the tree is still low on strength it seems to be throwing buds everywhere!
Fingers crossed the recovery keeps on track.
Any suggestions on when to cut back hard after a fertilizer overdose? I'm guessing December but was considering doing it sooner since all the dead leaves seem to be the upper parts that I was going to chop anyway?
Really pleased to see that it looks ok. These banksias are proving to be very resilient.
I would cut it back now. Seems a shame to let the tree waste valuable resources growing shoots that you will then cut off. Prune back now so that all of the limited resources go into making new growth that will benefit the tree.
Would you suggest a repot now when I cut it? Or wait until the warmer weather is more consistent?
Can't give a definite answer to that Pearcy. My instinct say it will probably be ok but last night was still quite cool here. Any other experience from others?
From past trials I know that I can repot banksia even when new shoots are growing so waiting will not cause more problems I hope.

Thanks Shibui I'll wait a couple of days to see if anyone has some more input.
Nights here are at lowest around 9 degrees but anywhere up to 17 odd at the moment. I think I remember reading in a thread once it's best not to repot unless nights are at a constant low of 20?
Then again I could be wrong haha.
