Pink callistemon
This has been in my backyard for a few years, not intended for bonsai but I wish to remove it as I have new plans for this garden bed.
I'd like to use it for a bonsai since I grew it from a seedling but.it just has this long straight trunk l.
Any ideas welcome, or is there no point? I thought maybe keep the height (around 1mt) and build like a weeping canopy???

Re: Pink callistemon
Most callistimon will backshoot well. If you can leace for a while cut back then dig after reshooting

Re: Pink callistemon
I think I'd cut it low. The trunk is long with no taper so probably not so good for bonsai as it is. Cutting low will stimulate plenty of new shoots which you can grow for a new apex and trunk lines.
Now is a good time to prune and dig callistemon. Either dig and prune in one go or follow Ken - prune then dig when new shoots start to grow.

Hello Zim,
Early days yet, you only trimmed on 13JAN2017.
Pat your puppy - He is doing your plant a favour, read a brief description below:

Previous threads within AB have opened my eyes to Uric Acid and its benefits to plants.

Re: Pink callistemon
Don't write off a callistemon stump for at least 6 months, even if it is black at the top. Shoots will usually appear from lower down the trunk, coming through the bark.
