Stone from WA trip
Hello,
This is a piece of limestone I collected during my WA trip up north. It naturally split with a flat base. I was happy that the neck survived the frieght intact.
I will most likely display in a suiban tray for now.

Re: Stone from WA trip
I've just forwarded this to two suiseki nuts, a friend and the president of the NSW Suiseki Society. Wow... I'm not into stones but this is stunning. Glad it arrived safely and a great find!! Won't you have fun making a diaz for it.

Re: Stone from WA trip
Dear AGarcia,
You are to be congratulated on getting such a beautiful stone back in one piece.
If you put it into a suiban you will need a pretty large and shallow one to show it off properly. Unfortunately, these types of suibans are not readily available in this country.
I would strongly suggest getting or making a daiza for it, now that would certainly make that stone stand on its own importance.
I wish you luck with it and hope to see it displayed somewhere, sometime.

Re: Stone from WA trip
Hello All,
Thanks for the kind words.
Yes, a suiban of this size might be hard to find. My local club had a few larger ones, but they sold out of them. I will see when they do another pot run to the suppliers place.
A dai would look good. I have done woodwork before, but not a dai. I will attempt this on the smaller ones.
BB: Yes I did bring back quite a few rocks, but mainly for bonsai purposes.
I will get some pics of the others on the weekend and post them up.
Pup: Yes WA is a marvelous place. Probably back for your AABC show. When are you coming to Brisbane? We need Demo'ers for our club with lots to share on natives. I think you fit the bill.
Regards
AG

Re: Stone from WA trip
splendid stone... soon as I saw it, it reminded me of eaglehawk neck and freycinet in Tasmania... maybe it drifted over from there...

Sounds like an idea. Do you have a website where I can see your work?mudlarkpottery wrote:If you are looking for a suiban to fit, I can make one for you.

Re: Stone from WA trip
I do have a website but it's a work in progress. If you google mudlarkstudiopottery a few hits wil come up and a few more if you google mudlarkpottery. I have one round suiban in stock at the moment and can take a photo of it and post it if you would like.

Re: Stone from WA trip
Sounds Good Mudlark. I will measure up the rock and take an aerial shot of it to get some opinions on suiban shapes.
