Hi all,
Here's a short time lapse video my son filmed and edited of Koji Hiramatsu styling a Juniper Chinesis Itoigawa at the AusBonsai Studio.

I know the dead wood is a style statement of some kind but imo the tree would look less like a bush, older and larger and more 'real' without the cow horns poking through the bush.

Good to watch how the experts do it. Thanks to those involved in producing this.
Does not appear to be lime sulphur being used on the dead wood. Is it white paint or something else? Short term application just for the video or is this something new for dead wood treatment?

on reading this again ,the 'cow horn' comment sounds a little mean---that wasn't my intention-----I think some some use of dead wood actually retracts from the design

Don't be too hard on yourself TG. I really liked the video and I also liked your comment. I didn't take it as mean rather I thought you were being creative/fun in your in interpretation of the jins. For what it's worth, I tend to agree with you.
Jins are part of the 'formula' that help to create the perception of age, so important to bonsai yet... sometimes when they are applied - they can detract from the design.
I to declare my bias too. I think deadwood is quite difficult to make look real/natural and I am rubbish at creating jins and shari ... just another skill to learn in due course.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.
The deadwood was painted with white paint just for the video. It will be washed off and treated with lime sulphur in the near future.
Regards,
Steven
