WITHDRAWN [Alpineart] Ulmus Entry #2
This is an Elm collected from a swamp up here in Ovens , just outside of Myrtleford , I haven't correctly identified it but i think it may be an American Water Elm ? . It was collected 2 years ago a thrown in the garden , It struggled and died back then re-sprouted during our wet weather last season . I don't know if it is a clump or a root connecting type as it was never cleaned of the mud it was collected in .Height is 900mm maximum and average height is about 450mm, the root mass/clump is 150mm high . Cost nil

Re: [ Alpineart] Ulmus ? Entry #2
Well i finally got around to locating the pics , so here it is on the 2-9-2011 after removal of the mud from where it was collected and basically hacked
A finer trim and its ready for the pot , hard to say which style it is Clump or root connecting ? Potted up and back onto a bench

Now that it is wired it looks much better!! well done!
If it is within the rules, I think a slab would look great, Dario.

Hi Dario , cant remember how thick the actual turtle back clump is . It might just put it over the height size limit .

Re: [ Alpineart] Ulmus ? Entry #2
This is a progression from November ,
I have not been told if it "can" or "cannot" be removed from this pot and placed onto a slab for the final result , wouldn't like to disqualify myself for such a mistake .
Cheers Alpineart
i have yet to decide if i should slip it onto a slab for the final comp .Today i have reduced the height with a trim and a little more compression of the trunks to 155mm and the width is 470mm . I have also defoliated it hoping for some finer ramification to start taking place . With its current height plus the thickness of the turtle back it will be well under the Shohin Comp size of under 250mm . I have not been told if it "can" or "cannot" be removed from this pot and placed onto a slab for the final result , wouldn't like to disqualify myself for such a mistake .

Re: [ Alpineart] Ulmus ? Entry #2
Well i decided to go ahead with the slip potting onto a slab .
this was not really a slip pot but a repot with minimum disturbance to fit the roots into the rock . A perimeter rim was built around the profile of the slab then the clump was added . A little fine tuning on the black wires on each trunk to shorten the composition down . I have trimmed it but that was after the pics Hope it hangs in there until the next update .Cheers AlpineartYou do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Re: [ Alpineart] Ulmus ? Entry #2
Hi The Hacker , the slab does it justice for sure , now i have to do the whole composition the same curtsey .
Hi emi93m , it certainly has come together, mind you i took a long time to find the slab hiding in the most unusual spot in the garden , bloody kid, i thought it was broken and hidden like some of the other slabs .
Hi Ryan , after the roots seetle in i will expose the club root that is the actual clump , now i'm happy with the vision i had for this works .
Cheers Guys
